AIMS recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary!
AIMS was originally constituted in March 1998 with the Alma Mater Society (AMS) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as a student group. Our original mandate was to provide quality, unbiased information on integrative, complementary and alternative medicine (ICAM) to students as there were other resources at the time. Interest from the community quickly grew and the student group served quite a large audience.
Over the following decade, AIMS held seven annual conferences, hosted numerous lectures, published quarterly newsletters, organized student-led UBC credit courses and published two annual Wellness Directories (circulation 60,000 copies). We have also published an electronic news and research update newsletter.
Many of the students who ran AIMS in the earlier days are now professionals and can provide for a more stable leadership. Education remains at the heart of our vision and we hope to continue to provide invaluable integrative medicine resources to students, consumers and professionals.
